Do you love using body scrubs? This Whipped Shea Butter Body Scrub recipe from Soap Making Essentials is like most body butter receipes, but it has the addition of salt to make it good for exfoliation. And this bath and body product is meant for use IN the shower rather than after. Rub onto the skin and gently massage in with circular motions. Rinse off and pat dry with a towel.
To make this recipe you will need: 1/2 Cup Shea Butter; 1/3 Cup Carrier Oil (sweet almond, apricot kernel, avocado, hemp seed, hazelnut, camellia, evening primrose, borage, or olive oil infused with calendula or chamomile are all good choices); 1/8 tsp Rosemary Extract or Vitamin E oil (optional but will help to prolong the life of the oils); 1 tsp Corn Starch (optional...makes the butter feel less greasy); Essential or Fragrance oil (optional); 1/2 - 1 Cup sugar (other choices include salt, finely ground nuts, coffee grounds...anything that provides a gentle scrub)

This sounds fantastic! I can't wait to try it...I could use soft, exfoliated skin.
Hi! I am new to this so I have a few questions.
1. What essential or fragrance oil do you suggest I use?
2. Where can I buy these ingredients?
Barbara
Barbara,
Thanks for all of your questions. I really like adding the vanilla as the fragrance to this recipe. Although if you buy vanilla essential oil it may color it slightly. It may be beige in color. If you do not want to do that then add a vanilla fragrance oil. With that said fragrance oil can vary from manufactuerer to manufacturer because they are creating the fragrance.
I try to my ingredients locally if possible. For alot of my carrier oils I get at Whole Foods. I do not know where you live but if you have a Whole Foods in your area, then I would try them. In their beauty department they do sell essential oils and some carrier oils (almond oil and apricot kernal) and in their regular oil aisle they have grapeseed and others.
Online line their is Wholesale Supplies Plus, Mountain Sage and others that I really like. Just beware that they might have great prices on supplies but shipping can be painful. So I recommend shopping around.
Hello. I made this scrub with pumpkin butter and pumpkin flakes as the exfoliant. It came out beautifully!
Thank you for the formulation.
Quetia - Pumpkin butter sounds like a nice addition to this recipe. Thank you for sharing.
hello, what is the shelf life for this product?
I have not made this recipe personally so I cannot give you an exact time frame. But I would say that whatever carrier oil use would be the best determinate. Carrier oils have different shelf lives for example Avacado oil has a shelf life of 3 months.
