Formulating Cold Process Soap Recipes

I took a cold process soap making class through The Nova Studio many years ago.  Lori Nova had a great recipe that she created.  I never used her recipe since I was afraid to try it because I thought I would mess it up.  But when I got brave to do my first batch, I wounded up using a Soap Quick mixture from Misson Peak Soap in Fremont.  I really loved it because someone else had the measured out the ingredients exactly.  Now that Mission Peak is no longer in business, I guess I have to try and venture out and do a batch from a recipe.  But if you are braver than I am and want to formulate your own batch, I found a post from The Soap Queen called Formulating Cold Process Soap Recipes.

Cinnamon Cocoa Melt & Pour Soap

When I saw this project, I could not help think of a delicious latte drink from the local coffee house. What is great about melt and pour soap is that it makes a great option for crisp and clean layers.  This Cinnamon Cocoa Soap tutorial from The Soap Queen shows you have to create this brown and white layered design that it is topped with a bit of Cocoa Powder. This would be a great gift to give out for the holidays.

Hybrid Embed Soap – CP & MP Into CP Soap

Have you ever wondered if you can combine MP (melt and pour) and CP (cold process) soap into one bar?  The answer is yes.  You can make a hybrid bar of soap by making MP shapes and place them into a CP batch.  In a recent post on Lovin' Soap site called Hybrid Embed Soap - CP & MP Into CP Soap by Gwynne Olsen tells you how to do it. I have always wanted to try to do but I was not sure how.  It looks simple enough.  IF I can do it, you can too!

Explaining and Preventing Soda Ash

If you are a cold process soapmaker, you may have encountered soda ash.  Soda ash is an uneven, white ashy film on your soap bars.  It is harmless, but it can be frustrating when it appears.  Sometimes, I get it on my soap and other times I do not. If I get it, I just wipe it off with a damp paper towel.  But there are ways to prevent it.  Want to learn how to prevent soda ash?  Then I recommend reading a recent post from The Soap Queen called Explaining and Preventing Soda Ash.
