Hi Lori! I'm taking your lotions class in Sunnyvale on the 28th. Some of my family and friends are vegans so I'm wondering if you offer alternatives to ingredients like beeswax in your classes?
Can't wait for the class. Thanks!
Beeswax is a common ingredient that used in lotions and creams. And I do not know of a sub. The class I took from someone who is a veggie/vegan used beeswax in making her lotions and creams.
In this class,we are making the recipes with beeswax. I will try find some sub recipes to bring to class. There may be some kind of sub candellia wax or carnuba wax.
I have to correct myself, we are not using beeswax in the recipes. It is emulisfying wax.
I hope that helps you.
Hello! Thanks for the quick response. My best friend is hardcore about not using any animal by-products (won't wear leather either), so sometimes it's a challenge for me to find homemade gifts to make. Anyway, thanks again and see you on the 28th!
Look forward to seeing you at class. I will try and find some subs for you. It will be difficult because in making lotions and creams there has to be some kind of binder to emulsify the oil and water.
Just to let you know that the emulisfying wax that I use in class is purely plant based. It is not animal based.
Camilla,
I found some info for you....

I will make copies of the vegan lotion recipes for you to class just in case.
Just to let you know that unlike most waxes (ie beeswax), emulsifying wax is not a true wax. It is a chemical mixture of emulisfiers and fatty alcohols that permits the forumulation of stable lotions and creams.
I am not aware of any lotions or cream recipe that ask for beeswax. Because beeswax usually hardens a recipe so it will find it mostly in lip balms, lotion sticks etc.
Emulisifying Wax NF is the same as Emusifying Wax and is considered a noncomedogenic raw material. NF is the abbreviation for a reference called National Formulael. It denotes quality compliance with the pharmaceutical monogram.
