Many years ago I took a class from Lori Nova at DeAnza College on how to make three types of natural perfumes.  One of the projects was making a solid perfume.  As I read some of the postings from some of the blogs I follow, I found this postings from Totally Tutorials. In this posting on How to Make a Solid Perfume, which was originally posted on the Go Make Me, shows how to make a perfume in a solid form.  But what I thought was really cute was the packaging in a locket.  This would make a great gift because it has a dual purpose...jewelry and perfume.

Victorian Floral Solid Perfume

This solid perfume is easy to use and has a delightful Victorian floral scent. It’s a wonderful perfume that’s just absolutely perfect for every day use.

Ingredients

1/2 Ounce Beeswax
1/2 Ounce Shea Butter
1/4 Ounce Cocoa Butter
1 Ounce Sweet Almond Oil
1/8 Teaspoon Rose FO
1/8 Teaspoon Lavender FO

Instructions

Combine the beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter and sweet almond oil in a pot. Melt over a low heat using a double boiler, or place your pot in simmering water until fully melted.Remove from heat, and then add the rose and lavender FO. Mix well and pour into perfume tins or lip balm tubes. Let cool then use.

Rose Garden Solid Perfume

If you love the smell of roses then this solid perfume will have you smelling as if you are surrounded by hundreds of beautiful and fragrant flowers

Ingredients

1 Oz Beeswax
1 Oz Cocoa Butter
1 Oz Mango Butter
4 Teaspoons Rose FO
Instructions

Combine the beeswax, mango butter and cocoa butter in a pot. Melt over a low heat using a double boiler, or place your pot in simmering water until fully melted.

Remove from heat, and then add the rose FO. Mix well and pour into perfume tins or lip balm tubes. Let cool then use.

Solid Perfume Recipe

I love solid perfumes for their easy portability and space saving designs. It’s also easy to make and harder to overdo when applying. Try out this solid perfume recipe from Chemistry at About.com.

Solid Perfume Ingredients
1 tablespoon beeswax or petroleum jelly
1 tablespoon jojoba oil or sweet almond oil
8-15 drops essential oil (fragrance oils used for making perfume)
small clean container (1/2 ounce) to hold your solid perfume

(You can find beeswax and oils at most health food stores or craft stores.)

If you don’t want to purchase a new container for your perfume, look for lip balm tins. Lipstick or chapstick containers also work well.

1. Melt together the wax or petroleum jelly with the jojoba or sweet almond oil. You can either microwave the ingredients for a few seconds in a microwave-safe container or else you can heat the mixture over a double-boiler.

2. Once this mixture has liquefied, remove it from heat. Stir in the essential oils. I like to use a toothpick for this, but you could use a straw or even a spoon. Expect your perfume to coat the stirrer, so either use something disposable or else something you can wash (i.e., don’t use a wooden spoon, unless you want it to smell pretty forever).

3. Pour the liquid into your final container. Set the lid on top of the container, but leave it ajar. This will help prevent condensation inside your container while minimizing the chance of microbial contamination of the product.

4. Apply the perfume by rubbing a finger on the product to liquefy it, then rub your finger on the area you want scented.

Lilac Solid Perfume Recipe

Summary: Heavenly scent of lilac in a solid form with optional decorative flowers

Ingredients:
1 part fractionated coconut oil
1 part bees wax or hydrogenated jojoba
MP 56 Lilac fragrance oil (it is a good idea to have .5 oz for each ounce of fractionated coconut oil)Individual lilac flowers cut from the bunch--if possible go for organic, you don't want pesticides! (optional)

Instructions:
Put bees wax or hydrogenated jojoba and coconut oil into a non-reactive pan and heat on low until wax melts into the oil. Test the consistency by sticking a cold spoon into the mix. If it is too hard or soft when it cools on the spoon, add wax or oil. Stir and let cool until you can touch the mixture, but before it starts to harden. Stir in fragrance oil to desired strength. Stir again and pour into containers. If desired take lilac flowers and place them into the mix before it hardens over, they look the best when they are barely covered. I recommend using a toothpick or tweezers to place them. Another good way is to make a batch and fill the containers 2/3 full, let it harden, put the flowers on top and spoon another batch on top of them. This recipe can be used with other scents also.
