Red Hot Lip Gloss Recipe
According to Alison of Bath Body Supply, "a lip plumper is a cosmetic product used to make lips appear fuller. In appearance, it ranges from translucent to opaque and tinted. Lip plumpers are used by those with thinner lips when full, "pouty" lips are desired. These products typically work by irritating the thin, delicate skin of the lips with ingredients like menthol, cayenne or cinnamon. This makes the lips swell slightly, which may also diminish the appearance of fine lines in that area. Other perceived benefits include stimulating collagen production and moisturizing. A lip plumper's effects are temporary, so it must be reapplied throughout the day to maintain the results."She posted this recipe to create this Red Hot Lip Gloss on her blog DIY Skincare. In this recipe, Alison has for the first ingredient is Natural Lip Balm Base (For Pots) which you can purchase through Bath Body Supply but if you have your own recipe you could probably subsitute.

Lava Lamp Lip Gloss Recipes
In October 2010, I took a class through College of San Mateo Community Education on making lip balm and lip glosses. One of the recipes made in the class was a lava lamp lip gloss. If you are a child of the 60's or not you will find this to be a really cool project to make. When I showed the sample from the class, there was alot of excitement. There are many recipes available at your disposable for anyone one to make many lip glosses to give as gifts or to make at a young girl's birthday party. Here are a few that I found:
Lava Lights Lip Gloss (Snowdrift Farms)
How to make Lava Lip Gloss (Bittercreek)
Lava Lamp Lip Gloss (Donated By: Julie H. Florida to Soap Teacher)
Lava Lamp Tutorial (Suds and Wax)
Lava Lamp Lip Gloss (Soap Dish)
If you you would like to see an instructional video on how this project is made, I found this one on You Tube - Lava Lamp Lip Gloss Video.
Now most of the recipes will have one color in a clear oil, but I have seen sample of a dual color. Never have tried the dual color but it did look cool!

For this particular recipe you will need:
•food coloring

•1 tsp. sugar flavoring (i.e. Pixy Stix)
•a pinch of glitter
•1/4 tsp of hot water
•1 heaping tbsp. petroleum jelly
For three fool-proof directions, read more.
•STEP 1: In a small mixing bowl stir the petroleum jelly, 1/4 tsp. of hot water, and the Pixy Stix until the sugar is dissolved.
•STEP 2: Then, slowly add in one drop of food coloring and a pinch of glitter. Stir well and quickly. Continue to add in food coloring and flavoring until you reach your desired taste and color. Let the mixture cool for about three minutes.
•STEP 3: Scoop out the contents in the bowl and neatly pack it into a clean, empty lip gloss container — voila!

How to Make Lava Lip Gloss
Ever since I took Melanie Wessner's Lip Balm, Exfoliator and Gloss class, I could not help to show the Lave Lip Gloss we made in class. Everyone that I showed it too was completely wowed with this unique product. If you grew up in the 60's and 70's this would be a cool product to make. This would be a great item to make at a tween or teen girl's birthday party. If you make this project at a birthday party it will be a hit and they will be talking about it to all of their friends.
The recipes that I have found all are pretty similiar with the ingredients. If you have a Whole Foods Market in your area you can purchase a variety of carrier oils, vegetable glycerin, stevia flavorings and food coloring. You can purchase some candy flavorings at Michaels. The only thing that you would have to order online would be the roll on lip gloss containers. Or if you prefer you can do one stop shopping and purchase all of the supplies from Wholesale Supplies Plus, Snowdrift Farms and others. So go for it and have some fun!
