Things You'll Need

Mixing bowl
Spoon or spatula
Pouring funnel
New lotion or lotion that's laying around the house, not being used anymore.
Superfine cosmetic-grade glitter
Empty lotion pump container

Steps

Empty contents of lotion into mixing bowl.
Sprinkle enough cosmetic-grade glitter to cover the top of the lotion.
Blend glitter well into lotion.
Place a pouring funnel into a lotion container
Use a spoon or a spatula to scoop the glittery lotion into the pouring funnel.
Push the shimmering lotion down the funnel and into the bottle with the spatula or spoon.
Put the lid back onto the container.
Squirt and enjoy.

Tips

You can find superfine cosmetic-grade glitter in the form of eye shadow or body dust in the makeup section at your local pharmacy.

This is a great activity for sleepovers.

The finished product makes a great gift when placed into a new lotion pump or other new container.

You can use as much glitter as you like.

Unscented Coconut Lotion Recipe

This unscented Coconut Lotion recipe gives the benefit of a skin soothing, handmade lotion along with the beautiful natural fragrance of coconut.

It could be a treat to anyone with sensitivities to scent, either synthetic or essential oils, if you're tired of going with unscented lotions and skin care products all the time.

Unscented Coconut Lotion Recipe

Ingredients

10g mango or shea or other butter
15g virgin coconut de creme or virgin coconut oil
13g natramulse
6g stearic acid
2g lactic acid
3oz distilled water or tea
3.85oz chamomile or rose hydrosol (distilled water can be used in place of the floral water)
a few drops of hydrolized milk protein or venasilk
touch of iridescent glitter if desired

Put stearic acid into a large pyrex measuring cup. Place this in a pot of water on medium heat.

Add the ewax when the stearic acid is almost melted.

Take off heat and add the shea butter. When all is liquid place back on heat for a minute to add the virgin coconut de creme, then the nutri oil.

Remove from heat.

While the oils are melting, warm the distilled water and glycerine to roughly the same temps as the oils. (keep the oils as low as possible but not so low that the stearic acid solidifies again) When the oils mixed thoroughly slowly add and mix distilled water.

Wait until the last minute possible (coolest temps) to add the hydrosol very slowly so that the scent is retained. Add the hydrolized milk protein at this time.

I am playing with using tea's instead of plain water, I think Linden or Chamomile might be good in this recipe?

If you're using a preservative, add according to manufacturer's instructions and bottle into clean bottles.

Slather all over yourself and SNIFF :0)

I am working on a version of this recipe in cream form. Also I think it would be great with unrefined cocoa butter but if you're using it in the lotion version you may want to adjust the stearic acid a touch. I'll post as soon as I've played :0)

Another Lotions Recipe

Submitted by Willow to Wholesale Supplies Plus Forum (http://forums.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/)

Ingredients:

55% distilled water
29% oils
10% butters
5.3% e-wax
0.7% preservative

Here's the breakdown for a thousand gram batch - very easy to apply the % then. ;o)
550 g water
290 g oils
100 g butters
53 g e-wax
8 g preservative

Use heat proof containers. I use Pyrex batter bowls, as they are good and sturdy and can go in the microwave or the fridge. Measure your water into one container, oils and e-wax into another, butters into a third, and preservative in a fourth.

All heating times I've given are based on my microwave, which tends to run hotter than average. For instance, for a TV dinner that says "4 to 6 minutes", we usually go 3 min 45 sec. Keep this in mind when attempting at home. Heat your water in the microwave or over the stove. For 550 g, I heat it in the micro on high for 4.5 minutes in a glass measuring cup. This is shy of boiling, but still pretty hot - I'd say 170 degrees or so. Set the water aside.

Heat oils and e-wax until e-wax is melted and container is hot to the touch. For this batch it takes about 3 minutes in the micro on high(Zap in 1 min increments). Add the butters to this mixture and allow the retained heat to melt them. This helps avoid any graininess that can occur by melting the butters too quickly. If after a few minutes the butters haven't completely melted, zap in the micro in 10 sec increments. Allow ingredients to cool until the containers are warm to the touch. I'd guess this is about 110 to 120 degrees.

Slowly pour water into the oil mixture, and start stick blending. I blend for one minute on, five minutes off until it's started to cool. It really doesn't take long for them to emulsify.

Please Note: I use Phenonip, which can withstand very high temps. According to manufacturer's instructions, I add half of it to the water, and half to the oils. I have never had a lotion separate on me using this process. Of course you can tweek this anyway you want to - there are so many cool additives like liquid silk or the polysorbates or even starches... but this really does work and is a great confidence booster! lol
