During the winter does your skin get cracked and rough?  I found a recipe for a lotion bar on the Wholesale Supplies Plus called Winter Hand Helper Lotion Bar.  Skin that gets cracked and rough will soak up the combination of hemp and avocado oils.  The mineral oil that is added to this recipe is a skin protectant for the hard cold winter weather.  And the added cornsilk powder contains allantoin which can help increase the skin's ability to increase the absorption of moisture.

It has been awhile since I made a lotion stick but I do not recall that it was ever greasy. But Point of Interest had a question from Tania about greasiness in lotion bars.  Tania was wondering how to get tapicoa to melt in her recipe and she was feeling some grittiness of her product over time.  Have you ever had this problem?  In a recent post called How to make a lotion bar less greasy?, Point of Interest answer her questions and provides some recipes.

Does your skin need some serious moisture?  Lotion bars are a way to go. You do not know what a location bar is? According to The Soap Queen, lotion bars typically refers to a combination of butters, wax, and oil that creates a firm yet spreadable product when combined.  Since they are made solely of oils, they are great for extremely dry areas like elbows, knees and cuticles.  If you are interested in using a lotion bar, The Soap Queen recently posted a recipe for a Lavender Lotion Bar.  I particularly like the packaging used for this product...a deodorant stick.  What do you think?

Bronzing Lotion Bars - DIY

I follow this guy named Roger Howard on Facebook.  And he often posts some interesting recipes.  Here is one for Bronzing Lotion Bars.

To start: Place 2 cups of coconut oil in a small saucepan or double boiler. Add 1 cup of very finely ground coffee (the finer the better). Simmer on low heat, stirring often, for several hours until the oil takes on a dark color. Strain through cheesecloth or old t-shirt and let cool. Use this for the coconut oil in the recipe below.

1/2 cup coffee-infused coconut oil
1/3 cup beeswax
2 tablespoons (or more) of Zinc Oxide - optional
15+ drops essential oil (not citrus) – optional
dark mineral makeup for extra bronzing-optional- to color (start with about 1/2 tsp)

How to Make:

Combine all ingredients except essential oil in a quart size glass mason jar and carefully place this jar in a small saucepan of water on the stove.

Turn the burner on and bring water to a low simmer. Stir ingredients constantly until they are melted and smooth.

Add essential oils and stir until mixed.

Carefully pour into molds or whatever you will be allowing the lotion bars to harden in. I used these silicon flower molds, though any mold would work.

Allow the lotion bars to cool completely before attempting to pop out of molds. These could be made in different shaped molds or made in a square baking pan and then cut into actual bars. 

Formulating Lotion Bars

Do you love making your own lotion bars?  They are pretty easy to make.  But if you are daring and would like to try to create your own recipe, then I recommend reading Point of Interest's posting on Formulating Lotion Bars.  The basic recipe is 1/3 butter, 1/3 oil, and 1/3 wax, Susan says that you can make plenty of modifications.  So read this  post all the way through for all of the useful information.

Lotion Bar Recipe from Duffin's

Love Lotion Bars and would like to make your own?  Or you would like to try a new recipe?  Here is a recipe from Duffin's Soap Bakery that you may want to try.  This Lotion Bar Recipe is very easy to make and you do not have to use the mold that Duffin's uses. I recognize this mold.  It looks like a soap mold that Life of the Party once sold at my local craft store.  So look for a flexible mold that would work best for you.  What would be nice it is to get bite molds that Wilton makes and make travel or guest size bars.
