How to Make Moisturizing Bath Melts

The moisturzing bath melts recipe in Tielle Webb's article How to Make Moisturizing Bath Melts is a really interesting recipe for a moisterizing bath melt. I would say that it is a combination of a bath melt and a bath bomb. Why I say that is the ingredients for this recipe include shea butter or cocoa butter, baking soda, corn starch and citric acid. So if you like a bath bomb or a bath melt you may want to try to combine the two and create this recipe.

How to Make Scented Bath Melts

When I was young I remember those Calgon commercials that would have the ladies saying "Calgon take me away!". If you feel like to you to take a break from your hectic life, why not take a long bath and use these lovely scented bath melts? Are you wondering what bath melts are? According to tabbycatfight, ehow contributer, bath melts, which melt in warm water - turn your bath into a luxurious, skin softening treat! They are sold at bath & body specialty stores - but it is easy to make your own for a fraction of the cost.

Making bath melts are relatively easy. Want to learn how to make them for your next bath? Here is the full recipe and instructions on How to Make Scented Bath Melts. Now the author of this recipe includes 2 cups of cocoa butter or shea butter and does not indicate whether or not to use refined or unrefined. You are wondering what that means. Well, if you purchase a unrefined product that is refined and deodorized that is processed and the original scent of the product will be removed. Cocoa butter has a chocolate aroma, whereas the shea butter has a nutty aroma. If are concerned that those aroma is going interfere with the fragrance you will be adding then go with the refined & deodorized. But if you are selecting a scent such a vanilla, peppermint or coconut which works well with a chocolate scent then select the unrefined version.

How to Make Milk Bath Balm

As I searched for new recipes, I found this article on How to Make Milk Bath Balms by Laura Thompkins. To be honest I never heard of a bath balms before until I read her article. According to Laura, a bath balm is a small bar designed to slowly melt in a warm bath. Bath balms, or bath melts as they are sometimes called, fill the bathroom with an aromatic scent while they emit essential oils into your bathwater to soften the skin.

Her recipe is different from what I have made in the past for a bath melt. The only item that we have similiar in our recipes is shea butter. I found the addition of unscents baby soap, powdered milk and poppy seeds quite interesting in a bath melt recipe. And I am wondering if I could add powdered milk to the recipe I have. I guess I will have to put on my lab coat and goggles in order to give it a try. If that does not work I will have to try her recipe.

Bath Melt T's Recipe

Do you love bath melts? Why not try this recipe from Ponte Verda Soaps. I have encountered other recipes that include such ingredients such as cocoa butter and shea butter. But this recipe is interesting ingredient is coconut oil. Wouldn't that make an interesting smelling bath melt if you incorporated unrefined cocoa butter?

For this recipe you will need to purchase the following ingredients: cocoa butter, vitamin E oil, coconut oil, favorite essential oil, 2 oz Bars Mold. Powder pigment or liquid pigment color. Ponte Verda Soaps states that food coloring will work, but it is hard to incorporate. The reasoning that food coloring is hard to incorporate is that is probably water base.

Melt the cocoa butter over very low heat and add the coconut oil. Remove and add the remaining ingredients. Stir well and add to your mold. Let harden and remove from mold. Place in the freezer to quicken the hardening. Keep in a cool place or the refrigerator. Snap off sections and pop them in your tub for a soothing smoothing luxury bath.

2 teaspoons jojoba esters MP70*

8 to 10 pink rosebuds
1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon rose otto essential oil**
8 to 10 small foil cups

*In warm weather, or if you plan to ship these bath melts, add 1 additional teaspoon jojoba esters, 70 to these recipes.

**To make these recipes more affordable, you can substitute the essential oils and absolutes for cosmetics-grade fragrance oils.

Making the Bath Melts

Gently heat the jojoba esters and solid oils until they have melted completely. Ideally, you should use a double boiler to heat the ingredients, but you can also use a microwave. If you are using a microwave, make sure to heat the ingredients in short, 20-second bursts, being careful not to overheat the mixture.

After the solid ingredients have melted, add the liquid oils, essential oils, and/or absolute. Stir the mixture well to make sure that these ingredients fully disperse.

Using a flour sifter or a fine-mesh strainer, sift the oatstraw powder or oat flour into the mixture, stirring well to combine.

Place the foil cups onto a baking sheet or other flat surface, and carefully pour the mixture into the cups.

Allow the melts to cool for a few minutes, until a firm layer forms on the top. When they are ready, carefully place individual flowers into each bath melt.

Allow the melts to cool overnight or until they become totally firm before handling or packaging them.
